Anvar Alikhan was not just a gentleman with brains, he was also a gentleman with a golden heart. Anvar was an extremely well-read man. The knowledge he acquired and his flair for writing led to a lot of people looking forward to reading his articles and posts on issues and topics as wide-ranging as Salman Rushdie, Freddy Mercury and James Bond.
"Khan Saab" as I called him affectionately, was my senior in the creative department of Ogilvy. Though I came from a different school of writing, he welcomed me with open arms. He never believed in hierarchy and this made him a popular sounding board for all of us creative people. He was a Nawab by way of etiquette and not attitude.
