Did you know that butter chicken is a source of thiamine and niacin? Or that biryani is rich in riboflavin, phosphorous and folic acid? Neither did we. The Square’s menu card began by informing us that its offerings have been put together mainly with a view to providing the following necessary nutrients: 1) beta carotene 2) ascorbic acid 3) calcium 4) protein 5) niacine and 6) phosphorous. It then proceeded to spell out the nutrients of every
dish—thereby enabling us to order our meal based on our specific body requirements.
For example, we felt a serious need for some riboflavin, niacin and phosphorous, which is why we ordered their gilaafi seekh kababs. To get an essential dose of protein and calcium we asked for palak paneer. And to ensure that we weren’t missing out on thiamine we added dal makhni. We got an intake of folic acid (plus more riboflavin) from their lachchha parathas, though we prudently supplemented them with kulchas for some very necessary Vitamins A and C. We ended with their excellent gulab jamuns—but that was only for the carbohydrate content, of course. Ooh, it felt so good to eat healthy for a change.
